Community Economic Development Officers' Reference Manual

Every community in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut has a community economic development officer, or EDO . They play a vital role in the development of economies and businesses, providing a wide range of support to local entrepreneurs.

Ron Ryan and Fred Weihs were asked to prepare an in-depth manual of practical information, tools and resources on community economic development to provide an easy to use toolkit to support EDOs in their important work. Working in consultation with communities and EDOs, Ron, Fred and associates prepared a plain language, comprehensive guide to community economic development that was distributed across Nunavut . It has become an important source book for EDOs across Canada . In 1999, a revised edition was issued to reflect the creation of the new territory of Nunavut .
