Human Resource Development & Training
Nunavut Arctic College and Nunavut Municipal Training Organization, 2004-2011
Know: We have worked with the College and MTO to update and revise 37 training manuals for the Municipal Government Program covering five “core” courses for all managers and 35 “specialty courses” specific to each of seven key management positions in Nunavut Municipalities.
Not only have we assisted in curriculum development, but Aarluk also draws on the depth of experience and skills of our many highly qualified instructors to deliver these courses to participants across the territory in one of the most comprehensive training programs in Nunavut
Collaborate: Nunavut Arctic College is the primary post-secondary institution in Nunavut and the Municipal Training Organization (MTO) represents a joint effort between the Nunavut Association of Municipal Administrators and the Department of Community and Government Services (CGS), Government of Nunavut. We work with each of these partners in the Municipal Government Program to ensure the needs of the clients and the participants are met.
Connect: The College, MTO and CGS have the challenging responsibility of meeting the educational and training needs of all the municipal employees in Nunavut. Their response was to develop a partnership between themselves and the municipal administrators to ensure the programs are relevant, accurate and delivered directly in the home communities of the participants wherever possible. Aarluk supports this process by providing expert facilitators and trainers to travel to communities to deliver the courses and ensure the participants get the most effective and satisfactory learning experience possible.
Act: In addition to revising and updating all the course materials in 2010/2011, Aarluk has provided more than 150 deliveries across Nunavut — we have been the largest consistent provider of instructors for the College and MTO since the inception and launch of the Program.
Succeed: Through the recruitment, logistical and promotional efforts of the College and MTO, Aarluk’s courses have exceeded 1,000 participants to date. The majority of the participants have been municipal staff, but many others have also benefitted from the training: from the unemployed to employees in a broad range of other public and private organizations. Our clients’ satisfaction with our work has been recognized by the most straightforward measure — continuing to award Aarluk contracts through the annual request for proposal process.
