APTN

APTN Project Management, 1998-2000

Know: Consilium, Aarluk and Stonecircle consultants have all been deeply involved in the development of Aboriginal communications in Canada since the early 1980s. Because of that experience Consilium was asked to help manage the design, incorporation and launch of a new national television network in 1999.

Collaborate: The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) was an unprecedented collaboration between First Nations and Inuit filmmakers, broadcasters and organizations designed to create a unique national, multilingual broadcasting service by, for and about indigenous peoples in Canada.

Connect: APTN had less than a year between the approval of its network license and the launch of its service. Consilium was assigned to develop a comprehensive project plan to ensure that all the complex planning threads — technical, management, governance, regulatory and operational — were identified and planned for.

Act: By developing a single, integrated plan linking all required planning streams and elements, Consilium was able to help the network assign and prioritize resources to ensure that all required staff were hired and trained, all necessary policies and procedures were in place, and all required facilities and equipment were ready for launch.

Succeed: The network signed on as scheduled on September 1, 1999, and has gone on to achieve international recognition and many awards for its innovative programming. Consilium is proud to continue our support to this day for one of the world’s most unique broadcast services.
