MORE
NEW PEOPLE
-
We welcome back Muna
Idris, master archivist, now completing the establishment of
Consilium's resource centre. Muna left us
temporarily to give birth to her second child, Omar,
we are delighted to welcome her back.

Dan David, writer,
journalist and gourmet Thai cook, joins us for the
national evaluation of the Aboriginal Languages
Initiative (see below). Apart from his world-class
research and analytical skills, Dan boasts the
finest collection of Hawaiian shirts East of
Honolulu. And he's not afraid to wear them, either.

Blair
Stevenson delivered a highly successful workshop
in Injury Prevention to a group of Inuit health
and policy workers from across Canada. The
initiative, funded by Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and
Health Canada, focused on the broad range of
issues that lead to death and disability from
injuries in Inuit communities.

NEW
PROJECTS
-
Over
the next month Consilium evaluation teams will be
heading out to literally every corner of Canada,
from Inuvik to Labrador to B.C. as part of the
evaluation of the Aboriginal Languages Initiative.
Since 1998, this federal program has provided
funds and support to preserve, protect and promote
Aboriginal languages in Canada.

NEW
GOSSIP

An unidentified Consilium Staff person was
photographed on her holidays at Myrtle Beach,
North Carolina during the American national Harley
Davidson rally. Any information as to identity of
this representative of an otherwise respectable
consulting firm would be most gratefully received.
(Hint...P.B., phone home....)

Congratulations to
Fred Weihs and Kowyeesa Owpaluk, celebrating
their 17th wedding anniversary this month. The
secret of their marital success, you ask? Why,
periodically dressing up in Japanese drag. Works
wonders.

Valerie Assinewe,
esteemed Consilium associate, was profiled in the
most recent edition of "Canadian Women's Health
Network" as a "Woman Of Note". She remains,
however, the same humble self we all know and
love.
